Unlike previous years, Apple did not update the 12-inch MacBook this spring. Typically, the company does a spec bump to the line every March or April.

However, it looks like certain models of the 12-inch MacBook have gone out of stock at Best Buy. Specifically, the Core i5 with 512GB of storage is out of stock in rose gold, space gray and gold, as well as the base rose gold model with a 256GB SSD. Best Buy does not sell any variation of the 12-inch MacBook with 16GB of RAM. Some models are still available in-store, but YMMV as in-store stock can fluctuate.

While it’s possible that Best Buy simply ran out of stock on these models and are awaiting more, it’s more likely that Apple is trying to flush out inventory on these models to make room for a refresh later this year.

At the time of writing, the 12-inch MacBook is currently available in all models via Apple’s own website.

It’s been rumored that Apple will be upgrading its entire Mac lineup this fall, which includes the iMac, Mac mini, and of course the 12-inch MacBook. Apple is also expected to update its iPhone and iPad lineup, which will be getting the iPhone X treatment, as well as updates to the Apple Watch with larger screens, and finally AirPower and updated AirPods.
