Square Terminal has launched today as the company’s newest point of sale hardware solution that includes a touch screen, support for Apple Pay and traditional card payments, and even a built-in printer. Read on for all the details.
As spotted by The Verge, the new all-in-one Square Terminal is a compact device with a 5.5-inch touchscreen that can handle all payment types. Previously, many businesses using Square have had to utilize separate Square products for swiping credit and debit cards and processing chip or mobile payments like Apple Pay. It can also be used with or without a power adapter, with a built-in battery offering all day use, which could be handy for restaurants and more. Square also packed a printer into the device for even more convenience.
Square charges 2.6% + 10¢ per tap, dip, or swipe with Terminal. It is available now with a price of $399. However, the company is offering $300 off via processing credits for customers who have signed up within the last two months. Square also offers monthly payments for Terminal.
This new point of sale system sits in the middle of Square’s lineup of solutions. It launched its high-end offering just about a year ago called Square Register at a $1,000.
At $600 less, Terminal offers a compact and robust point of sale system that will likely be popular for small to medium sized businesses. The company still offers its iPad-compatible Square Stand starting at $100 alongside the entry-level options, including a new Lightning-based reader.
