The first iPhone XR teardown video has appeared on the internet and unsurprisingly, it shares a lot with how the internals of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are designed. iFixit has also just got their hands on the device and is in the process of tearing it down.
The most notable internal difference between the iPhone XS and iPhone XR is its battery design. iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max all feature an L-shaped battery design, however the iPhone XR sticks to the standard rectangular battery cell.
With that being said, iPhone XR packs a 2942mAh battery, which is larger than iPhone XS’ 2658mAh but slightly smaller than iPhone XS Max’s 3174mAh. In reality, this means iPhone XR will be on par or better in some scenarios than iPhone XS Max. We also see the return of the rectangular logic board. iFixit calls the XR a “fun hybrid between the [iPhone] 8 and [iPhone] X.”
Some have noticed and speculated that the Lightning port on iPhone XR is misaligned due to how the display controllers on the LCD display are placed, however, there seems to be no indication of this yet. We’ll have to wait for iFixit’s full teardown to see what’s really going on under the hood.
In the meantime, check out the first ever iPhone XR teardown video below.
