Is M. Night Shyamalan running Apple? The company just announced a Monday night keynote event on the eve of Halloween. The tagline? Scary Fast. Macs are rumored, but what Apple silicon will be inside?
Surely the use of an event, even if it’s video-only for everyone, means we’ll see the first M3 chip and not just slightly updated Macs with M2 chips. I mean, we already know that the M2 is only mildly frighteningly fast, but not downright scary fast!
The initial rumor, by way of MacOtakara, was that Apple would be releasing M2 and M2 Pro iMacs. They also noted MacBook configurations were shipping later than normal.
Mark Gurman later reported that Apple planned to release new Macs by the end of the month. Gurman has also consistently reported that the iMac would skip the M2 generation altogether.

Refreshing only the iMac with M3, while leaving the rest of the line up with M2, may confuse the market and potentially disrupt sales for the holiday season.
If TSMC can crank out M3 for iMac and MacBook Air, by all means, refresh them with M3.
On the other hand, refreshing iMac this late with M2 (and M2 Pro) is rather lazy. Perhaps the general public would be distracted with bold color choices, as well USB-C input devices.
Suddenly, expecting an M3 introduction seems more treat than trick. And if there was any doubt that Scary Fast referred to Macs, Apple’s got a nice Finder animation to tease the event.
If we do get the first M3 Macs, that could include the MacBook Air. Will Apple update the MacBook Air to M3 just a few months after putting the M2 in the first 15-inch MacBook Air? No doubt about it. The thing to watch, for me, is if Apple takes this as an opportunity to bump up the price of the MacBook Air. The 15-inch is awfully affordable. We’ll see!
So set your alarms. 5 p.m. California time is 8 p.m. in New York, midnight in London, and 8 a.m. in China.
But how long will this evening event run? Surely it won’t be the full 60 to 90 minutes, right? Right?! I mean, Monday Night Football kickoff is 15 minutes after the start of this video event. It’s the Las Vegas Raiders versus the Detroit Lions, and the Scary Fast M3 is going for the win.
