iPadOS 18.0.1 now available with key fix for M4 iPad Pros

Today Apple has released iPadOS 18.0.1 for all compatible iPads. The update includes, most importantly, a fix that brings iPadOS 18 back to M4 iPad Pro users after Apple had previously pulled the update more than two weeks ago.

18.0.1 update brings bug fixes and M4 iPad Pro support

iPadOS 18.0.1 is available for all users with a supported iPad model. This includes:

  • M4 iPad Pro
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad (7th generation and later)
  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

You can find and download iPadOS 18.0.1 by opening the Settings app on your iPad, then visiting General ⇾ Software Update.

You can download 18.0.1 whether you previously installed iPadOS 18.0, or were unable to do so after Apple pulled the update and are still running iPadOS 17.

There’s nothing in the way of new features expected in this release. However, like most minor updates, Apple is introducing key bug fixes in today’s 18.0.1. Here are the full release notes:

This update enables iPad Pro with M4 to update to iPadOS 18 and provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPad including:

  • Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
  • Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPad models.

And if you’ve been unable to install iPadOS 18 before now, you still have a lot of features to explore.

What’s next: iPadOS 18.1 and Apple Intelligence

Today’s iPadOS 18.0.1 release is a big deal for M4 iPad Pro users who have previously been unable to install the new iPadOS 18. For everyone else though, it’s a relatively minor update.

Later this month, however, is when things get more exciting. iPadOS 18.1 is expected to drop in mid-to-late October and bring with it the first set of Apple Intelligence features.

If you have an M1 iPad or later, that update is the one to get especially excited about.
