Vision Pro’s first scripted immersive film is coming this week, here’s the trailer

The Vision Pro is a fantastic device for video, especially anything captured in Apple’s ‘Immersive Video’ format. Before now, all Immersive Video content has been unscripted: things like sports, global adventures, and nature docs. But later this week, the first scripted project on Immersive Video—Submerged—is coming. You can watch the trailer now.

Submerged trailer previews the unique Immersive Video

Submerged will be available free for all Vision Pro users starting this Thursday, October 10, at 12pm ET / 9am PT. It will be available inside the Apple TV app.

The short film was written and directed by an Academy Award-winning filmmaker. That makes it stand out from other Immersive Video Apple has produced to this point. The filmmaker, Edward Berger, is best known for films like All Quiet on the Western Front and the upcoming Conclave.

Here’s Apple’s summary of what to expect from this new short film:

Submerged invites viewers onto a WWII-era submarine and follows its crew as they wrestle to combat a harrowing torpedo attack. This adrenaline-pumping thrill ride showcases the unique storytelling experiences made possible by Apple Immersive Video, a remarkable media format that leverages ultra-high resolution 3D video and Spatial Audio to put viewers in the center of the action.

The debut trailer intersperses commentary from the director as he explains the creative opportunities afforded by Vision Pro.

9to5Mac’s Take

The ramp up of new Apple Immersive Video content started out slow, but has been accelerating.

In the last few months, Apple has debuted several other Immersive Videos for Vision Pro users. These include new series Boundless and Elevated, a Super Bowl LVIII short, and the Paris-set Parkour.

If you’ve watched any Immersive Video, you’ll probably agree that this format feels very much like the future of TV.

Getting the first scripted Immersive Video into the world is a great step toward that future.
