Kwikset introduces Halo Select – A Matter-enabled smart door lock

Today, Kwikset has announced the upcoming launch of Halo Select, a new smart door lock designed with built-in Wi-Fi and Matter support. This lock allows for easy smart home integration without the need for a hub or getting locked in. You can control the lock via the Kwikset app, enabling remote access, locking/unlocking, and granting entry to guests through unique codes or in-app, with real-time notifications to track activity. Once you integrate it with your smart home platform, you can also control it from there.

The lock’s Matter over Thread support makes it compatible with HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and more. Additionally, geofence technology allows the lock to unlock when a user approaches the home automatically.

Halo Select represents the next step towards Kwikset’s mission to provide homeowners with unmatched security and seamless control over their home security,” said Jeff Sandoval, Director of Marketing for Electronics at Kwikset. By offering both Wi-Fi and Matter connectivity, Halo Select fills a critical gap in the market, providing a versatile, integrated solution that simplifies smart home integration. We’re excited to bring this innovation to market and continue delivering trusted and reliable products that reflect the evolving needs of today’s connected homes.

Some of the nice design elements include a touchscreen with keypad indicators and a door status sensor confirming the door is closed correctly. The lock also alerts users to security issues like wrong code attempts or tampering and has a powerful, quiet motor for quick operation.

The lock is designed for do-it-yourself installation, needing only a screwdriver, and is powered by AA batteries or a rechargeable lithium-ion pack ). An upgraded model, Halo Select+, with NFC tap-to-unlock functionality, will launch in early 2025.

Halo Select with Matter will be available in stores and online by mid-November.
