Apple TV+ is having a moment. Not necessarily by getting more subscribers or hitting new levels of brand awareness. Those measures can be hard to judge. But TV+ is undoubtedly in the middle of a hot streak with acclaimed shows. Even more impressively, that streak looks set to continue with the strong lineup that’s coming.
Five years in, TV+ is hitting its stride
During the five years that Apple TV+ has existed, the service has regularly put out high-quality content. But historically, it’s arrived as a slow drip. There would be one great show releasing episodes at a time—very occasionally two, but that was rare.
This year, Apple entered the fall airing three of the best shows on TV anywhere, regardless of streamer.
Bad Monkey, Slow Horses, and Pachinko all debuted new seasons around the same time, and thus subscribers got a solid 6-8 weeks where Apple dropped several excellent episodes per week.
After those shows wrapped, I fully expected the Apple’s TV+ lineup to settle down again. Take a break from its current success.
But Apple keeps bringing the hits.
The current Apple TV+ hot streak
Some of the current hits airing on TV+ include Disclaimer and the second season of Shrinking.
Each series is wildly different—one a heartfelt comedy, the other a prestige psychological drama—yet both are arguably some of the best shows Apple TV+ has put out in its five years.
There are also three currently airing TV+ shows that I haven’t even tried, but want to:
- La Maison has been compared to Succession in the fashion world
- Where’s Wanda? looks like a delightful genre-bending family story
- Midnight Family is an action-filled, apparently soapy medical drama
All three shows have earned strong reviews, yet haven’t received as much attention as shows like Disclaimer and Shrinking. Likely this is because none of them were shot in English.
The need for subtitles or a dubbed English track is probably part of the reason I haven’t started these shows yet either. But I think the bigger reason is that Apple keeps putting out plenty of other TV to keep me occupied.
What’s coming next
I partly wish Apple TV+ would give me the chance to catch up on some of the shows I’m missing. But honestly, what’s coming next is pretty compelling.
Two of my favorite TV+ series, and critically beloved too, are getting new seasons in November.
One of Apple’s biggest mainstream hits, Silo, gets its long-awaited season 2 on November 15.
Since watching the first season, I’ve read the entire Silo trilogy of books. So even though I know what comes next, I’m pretty invested in this series and can’t wait to see the TV adaptation continue.
Just as exciting for me, though, is Bad Sisters season 2. It took me a while to watch the first season. It didn’t quite catch my interest at first. But the myriad of praise-filled reviews eventually wore me down, and I instantly loved the series.
New Bad Sisters episodes debut right before Silo, on November 13.
Which means two of the best TV+ shows will be running new seasons through the end of the year.
Leading right up to the highly anticipated January debut of the long-awaited Severance season 2.
What better way to kick off a strong 2025?
Wrap-up
In my view, early 2024 started off shaky for Apple TV+. But the service has absolutely righted the ship. It’s set to end the year stronger than ever, and I can’t wait for what’s next.
