Apple finally announces streaming date for ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ movie

The Apple original film Fly Me to the Moon veritably bombed at the box office, when it hit cinemas in July of this year, grossing a mere $42 million worldwide. In fact, the poor takings for the film is seen to be one of the factors that led Apple to retreat from its previous theatrical strategy.

Either way, after spending an unusually long time in an exclusive video-on-demand (buy or rent) window, Apple has finally announced when Fly Me to the Moon will be available to stream on Apple TV+: the movie streams worldwide on December 6.

Fly Me to the Moon stars Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum in a rom-com comedy caper set in the 1960s, which sees marketing exec Kelly Jones (Johansson) on a quest to fix NASA’s public image, as hopes in the Apollo mission being successful are on the rocks. Jones is tasked with staging a fake moon landing, in case the real mission fails. Tatum co-stars as Cole Davis, the flight director of the Apollo 11 mission.

The movie got middling critical reception, although was generally received warmly by the public who actually went to go and see it.

With a December 6 release date, it is set to be Apple’s major new movie release for the Christmas holiday period.

Coincidentally, Apple’s movie division launched two new projects today; World War II feature Blitz premiered today, along with documentary Bread & Roses.
