Apple’s iPad Pro got a huge upgrade this year with the M4 chip, tandem OLED display, nano-texture option, and more. But the next version is already in the works, and now we have an idea of when to expect it.
M5 iPad Pro will continue Apple’s 18-month refresh cycle
Ming Chi-Kuo, in a post highlighting updates for two of Apple’s suppliers, has shared some of the first details about the next iPad Pro.
The iPad Pro equipped with the M5 processor is expected to enter mass production in 2H25. The company’s business momentum in 2H25 is anticipated to benefit significantly from Apple’s new product launches.
Kuo included this note in a section covering BYD Electronic, the company that Apple currently contracts with to assemble iPads (and soon the HomePad too, per the piece).
The inclusion of the M5 chip is no surprise, since the current iPad Pro models boast the M4. But it’s nice to have confirmation of that detail.
More significantly, the timeline for the iPad Pro is in line with expectations too.
Apple has historically updated its iPad Pro line about every 18 months—though sometimes longer. The current models were launched in May 2024, so a fall 2025 debut of the M5 models fits with standard patterns.
No other known features for the M5 iPad Pro are known at the moment. Since this year’s M4 models were such a big upgrade, it’s likely we’ll see far fewer changes with the 2025 models.
Apple’s product launches in fall 2025
It’s always possible things could change, but Kuo’s expectation of mass production in the second half of 2025 should line up nicely with the expected first M5 Macs too.
If Apple follows its recent launch trends, we’ll see new iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods models at a September event, with the M5 iPad Pro and Macs coming in October or November.
We’re not quite into 2025 yet, but Apple’s big fall lineup is already starting to take shape.
