New iOS 18.2 feature will ‘change the way we make music forever,’ says Michael Bublé

iOS 18.2 is now available for iPhone users, and one of its new features is gaining high praise from musical artist Michael Bublé, also known as the king of Christmas. Here’s what’s new in Voice Memos with iOS 18.2.

Powerful iOS 18.2 Voice Memos update geared toward musical artists

When Apple first introduced the iPhone 16 Pro in September, it demoed an upcoming feature in Voice Memos that would be huge for musical artists.

Layered Recordings is that Voice Memos feature. It’s exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, and available now in iOS 18.2.

Here’s how Apple describes the feature:

Tailored for musicians, this feature allows users to effortlessly record a high-quality vocal layer over an existing instrumental track, unlocking new possibilities for musical expression, voiceovers, and creative experimentation.

With its studio-quality microphones and intuitive controls, iPhone 16 Pro with Voice Memos lets anyone capture vocals over an existing song idea without the need for headphones. For advanced editing and production, layered recordings can be imported into Logic Pro as a two-track project, providing a seamless workflow for high-quality music production.

The king of Christmas gives his highest endorsement

Michael Bublé actually recorded vocals for his latest Christmas song, Maybe This Christmas, using the new feature.

Apple has published a new video featuring Bublé and his creative team discussing the Voice Memos update.

The money quote from Bublé arrives near the end, when he says: “I honestly think this is going to change the way that we make music forever. I really do.
