Carpool Karaoke makes Apple TV+ return with hour-long Christmas special

Carpool Karaoke started as a hit segment on James Corden’s late-night show, then later became a multi-season series sans Corden, starting on Apple Music and later moving to Apple TV. Now, it’s returning with an hour-long Christmas special for Apple TV+ and Apple Music subscribers alike.

Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Chappell Roan star in ‘A Carpool Karaoke Christmas’

A Carpool Karaoke Christmas is now available in most of the world, with a full global rollout December 20.

The music-packed special features three popular female artists:

  • Lady Gaga
  • Dua Lipa
  • Chappell Roan

Behind the wheel this time around is Zane Lowe, Apple Music Radio host and ultimately one of the most recognizable Apple Music faces.

It would have been a nice Christmas surprise for James Corden to return to the driver’s seat again. While he does open the special, he ultimately ‘turns the keys over’ to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. Lowe is an excellent interviewer, so I suspect that despite Corden’s absence, it will be a fun watch.

Here’s the trailer:

And here is Apple’s summary of the special:

Corden passes the keys to Lowe, a fellow interviewer and trusted voice amongst today’s top artists, as he jumps into the driver’s seat in this festive installment of “Carpool Karaoke: The Series,” featuring Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa and Chappell Roan singing along to Christmas classics, including “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” along with their signature songs, such as Lady Gaga’s chart-topping “Die With A Smile,” Dua Lipa’s number one hit “Houdini” and Chappell Roan’s breakout hit “Good Luck, Babe!” As a holiday treat, Zane Lowe and Lady Gaga debuted a special version of “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” on Apple Music and all major music platforms.

You can watch the new A Carpool Karaoke Christmas special now with an active Apple TV+ or Apple Music subscription.

9to5Mac’s Take

The special is just shy of an hour long, which is significantly longer than standard Carpool Karaoke fare. But with a radio host, expert interviewer in the driver’s seat and three of the most powerful working musical artists today, I’m guessing that extra runtime will turn out fully merited.
