Meta rolling out new feature to find your X friends on Threads

Meta is rolling out a new feature that will make it easier to switch from X to Threads. The new option is rolling out today in beta and allows you to “follow the same popular creators you’re following on X.”

Here are the instructions from Meta on how to import your X data into Threads:

  1. Open X and tap on your profile.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Your account.
  4. Tap Download an archive of your data and wait up to 3 days to receive an email with your info.
  5. Once you receive the email, download and unzip your data file. Then, find the following.js file in the Data folder and upload it to Threads.net.

As you can see, it’s not a particularly seamless or quick process, but given X’s API limitations, it’s likely the only way Meta can implement a feature like this. The feature isn’t available to everyone just yet, but you can check your Threads account on the web to see if it’s available for you.

One of the problems with the current fractured social media landscape is having to rebuild your social graph on each platform. Ideally, Meta would’ve rolled this feature out earlier, but today is better than never.
