New AirPods Pro 2 beta firmware available with iOS 26 features

iOS 26 introduces several new AirPods features that are currently being beta tested by developers, and Apple just released a new firmware build for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 users.

iOS 26-ready AirPods firmware gets second beta update

Earlier this month, shortly after its WWDC keynote presentation, Apple shipped new beta firmware for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4.

The firmware brought the first iOS 26 AirPods features to beta testers, such as sleep detection and camera remote.

And for the first time, joining the AirPods beta became as easy as opting in via the Settings app.

Now, two weeks later, Apple has released its second version of the beta firmware (via MacRumors).

The new firmware has the build number 8A293c.

Apple’s prior build was 8A279d.

If you have the iOS 26 beta installed on your iPhone, or macOS Tahoe or iPadOS 26, you can enable AirPods beta updates from there.

Just know that like with all beta software, there may be a variety of bugs and performance issues introduced alongside the new features.

Personally, my AirPods Pro 2 have been unable to properly connect to my iPhone since installing the first beta firmware, though they work fine with my iPad running iPadOS 26.

Have you installed the new AirPods firmware? How’s it running for you? Let us know in the comments.
