Belkin ending support for most of its Wemo smart home accessories

Belkin has announced that it is ending support for most of its Wemo smart home products. Customers will lose access to the Wemo app, any features that rely on cloud connectivity, customer support, and more. It’s effectively the end of the Wemo smart home brand.

Belkin shared the news in an email to customers and on its website today. Effective January 31, 2026, Belkin says that a wide array of older Wemo products will lose support for key features:

  • App Access: The Wemo app used to control these devices will no longer be supported after January 31, 2026.
  • Remote Features: Any features that rely on cloud connectivity, including remote access and voice assistant integrations, will no longer work.
  • Customer Support: Technical support, firmware and software updates, and troubleshooting assistance for affected products will no longer be available after January 31, 2026.

For Apple users, however, there’s at least one piece of good news. “Wemo products configured for use with Apple HomeKit will continue to function via HomeKit in the absence of Wemo cloud services and the Wemo app,” Belkin says.

Additionally, Belkin says the shutdown will not impact Wemo’s Thread-based smart home accessories. These products will “continue to function as they do today through HomeKit,” according to the company. Here are those devices not impacted by the Wemo shutdown:

WLS0503Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way

WSP100Wemo Smart Plug with Thread
WDC010Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera

On its website, Belkin is now selling just two Wemo products, the Smart Light Switch with Thread and the Scene Controller with Thread.

Belkin continues:

“This decision was not made lightly. Over the last decade, since Belkin first launched Wemo in 2011, we’ve been committed to providing consumers with innovative, simple-to-use accessories for a seamless smart home experience. However, as technology evolves, we must focus our resources on different parts of the Belkin business.

We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the support and enthusiasm for Wemo over the last several years. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished in the smart home space and are grateful to our customers for welcoming Wemo into their homes.

We understand this change may disrupt your routines, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. “

9to5Mac’s Take

I can’t say I’m surprised by this news. Belkin’s lack of commitment to the Wemo brand has been clear for the last several years. In 2023, the company abandoned its plans to adopt the Matter smart home standard. The company hasn’t launched any new products, and existing users have reported an increasing number of problems with their accessories in recent years.
