Two of the best AirPods Pro 3 announcements from earlier today weren’t exactly about performance improvements or new sensors, but comfort and further customization. Here are the details.
Foam-infused ear tips and two extra sizes
After years of users resorting to aftermarket foam AirPods ear tips, Apple seems to have finally taken notice.
As the company explained during the Awe Dropping event, AirPods Pro 3 have foam-infused ear tips, which double as an extra insulator for the 2x improved active noise cancellation.
It is worth mentioning that Apple’s foam-infused ear tips seem different from many aftermarket options, but only with proper testing will we be able to confirm that one way or the other.
Here’s Apple:
“Using advanced computational audio to remove more noise around you than ever, AirPods Pro 3 let you zone in (or out) when you need to. And five all-new ear tips — including an XXS option — fuse a thin layer of soft foam to the silicone shell to give you even better acoustic performance.”
As the company alluded to in the quote above, AirPods Pro 3 offers five ear tip options, rather than the three introduced with the original generation: XXS, XS, S, M, and L.
The standalone 5-pair pack costs $14.99, but the new tips are incompatible with previous AirPods Pro versions. Apple also sells two sets of the XXS ear tips for $9.99, which are also exclusive to the new AirPods Pro 3.
