Apple announces 2026 ‘Ring in the New Year’ challenge for Apple Watch users

Apple has announced its annual “Ring in the New Year” challenge for Apple Watch users. A new Apple Watch Activity Challenge is set for January, encouraging you to begin 2026 on the right foot by closing all three rings for seven days in a row.

Apple says: “Start the year strong and stay active! Earn this award by closing all three Activity rings for seven days in a row in January.” The challenge will run from January 7 through January 31.

You can complete the challenge with your Apple Watch using any app that records data to the Fitness app on your iPhone. These Activity Challenges are meant to promote using the Apple Watch for fitness tracking and they act as a way to guide users into taking advantage of the device’s workout features. Apple has held the Ring in the New Year Challenge most years since 2016.

You can also complete the challenge using Apple Fitness+, which is Apple’s own workout service that offers a variety of different categories of content.

Will you participate in this “Ring in the New Year” challenge on your Apple Watch? Are you planning any fitness goals for 2026 with help from your Apple Watch? Let us know down in the comments!
