We’ve so far been assuming that the iPhone Fold would have a familiar aspect ratio on the exterior display, opening out into an interior screen which is taller than it is wide.
However, a recent report suggested that the interior screen will be wider than it is tall, and some physical mockups give us an indication of how this might look …
The renders we’ve been using so far show a conventional iPhone shape when the device is folded, opening into a larger screen essentially amounting to two iPhones side by side.
However, a report suggesting that the internal display would be wider than it is tall. If accurate, this would point to an extremely unusual aspect ratio for the folded device.

Current (book style) folding phones make no sense for consuming media because wide screen video isn’t any bigger on the inside screen. I find phones way too big anyway so if folding can become a way to make phones smaller again, I’m all for it. The flip style phones do that, but those outside screens are really small. This also seems to do that, so I’m intrigued.
Ben Geskin created some physical mockups to get a sense of what this would be like to handle, with the folded device a similar size and shape to a passport. He includes both photos and a video.
If accurate, this would be a radical departure from existing iPhone screens. I personally find myself somewhat skeptical, but perhaps Apple would want the device to stand out as much as possible and use the aspect ratio as one way of doing so?
