iPhone Air 2 could get two of the most requested feature upgrades

Apple may have fixes coming for iPhone Air 2 that address two major concerns with the first model: cameras and battery life. Here are the details.

iPhone Air 2 could add second camera and bigger battery

By all indications, iPhone Air hasn’t been the success Apple was hoping for. Or that, I would argue, it deserves to be.

The ultra-thin model surpassed my expectations for battery life and durability, and its camera limitations have mostly been non-issues with a few small exceptions.

But cameras and battery life still seem to be the biggest concerns prospective buyers have.

And it’s those two areas that Apple appears focused on upgrading with the iPhone Air 2.

We’ve seen several previous reports that Apple will add a second camera to the iPhone Air 2, addressing one major piece of consumer feedback.

Now today, a new report from The Elec covers an innovation that might address the battery concern too.

Apple is reportedly exploring adding CoE display technology to the iPhone Air 2, which would enable a thinner, brighter display. The technology is expected to first debut in this fall’s iPhone Fold.

CoE could potentially help Apple create an even thinner iPhone Air 2. But more likely, I suspect any additional internal space freed up by CoE would instead be used to boost battery life.

As an iPhone Air user, upgraded from 15 Pro Max, what I miss the most isn't the battery or the wide angle lens but the telephoto lens.

Most of the current iPhone Air design is dedicated to battery. If Apple can remove one layer from its display components, that space could be repurposed for a bigger battery.

Not only that, but CoE would enable the iPhone Air 2 to appear brighter without additional battery usage. So for the same default brightness level as the current Air, there should be less battery drain.

All of this means Apple may be able to deliver an iPhone Air 2 that addresses the two biggest criticisms of the first model.
