Apple’s new M6 chip could launch surprisingly soon, per report

Apple’s first M5 products launched just three months ago, but a new report says we could see the M6 chip debut surprisingly soon.

M6 chip coming ‘in the near future’ per Mark Gurman

Yesterday in his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman offered an overview of what to expect from the Mac in the year ahead.

After mentioning new MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, and more, he ended with a curious hint about the forthcoming M6 chip.

Mark Gurman writes at Bloomberg:

One wrinkle: I think the M6 chip is potentially coming sooner than people anticipate. Not necessarily in these next laptops, but still in the near future in some configurations. Apple released the M5 processor in October in three devices. Though it might seem soon for an M6, there was only a five-month gap between the M3 and M4.

The M4 was a big surprise when it debuted. Not only because of the short time-span between chip generations, but also because the first M4 product was the iPad Pro. Before then, every new chip generation had launched in a Mac first.

The idea of an M6 product launching “in the near future” seems similarly unusual.

Recently, evidence surfaced that the rumored M6 MacBook Pro with OLED and a total redesign might be ahead of schedule.

However, high-end M5 versions of the MacBook Pro haven’t even launched yet. And Gurman himself, just before the M6 paragraph, says the revamped MacBook Pro “should be hitting toward the end of 2026.”

Thus, it’s currently a big question mark what that first M6 product might be. But if Gurman’s right, we could see the M6 debut some time in the next few months.

What do you think the first product with an M6 chip will be? Let us know in the comments.
