WhatsApp is finally working on scheduled messages

Meta is at last bringing scheduled messages to WhatsApp, delivering on one of the app’s most-requested features. Here’s how it is going to work.

Yep, WhatsApp still doesn’t support that

As spotted by WABetaInfo, new references found in a recent TestFlight beta of WhatsApp suggest that Meta is laying the groundwork to bring scheduled messages to the app.

According to the report, the feature is “currently in development and not yet available for beta testing.” However, they shared a screenshot of the Group Info interface that features a “Scheduled Messages” menu item, just below the “Media, links and docs,” and “Starred” options.

In recent years, scheduled messages have become a common feature in messaging apps, with Telegram and even iMessage offering the option. Meta, on the other hand, had yet to adopt the feature on WhatsApp, leading users to find creating workarounds, such as relying on the Shortcuts app.

It is not yet clear whether WhatsApp’s scheduled messages will support features such as Telegram’s “Repeat” option, which lets users schedule messages to be sent automatically at regular intervals, making it a useful reminder alternative for certain recurring workflows.

Still, this is welcome news for WhatsApp users, even though the feature isn’t yet accessible to TestFlight beta testers.

As WABetaInfo notes, “once development is complete, the feature will be rolled out to select beta testers, who can provide initial feedback and reports based on their experience,” ahead of the official release.
