Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 reviews are here

Apple TV keeps strengthening its reputation as a sci-fi destination, with hits like Severance, Pluribus, Foundation, Dark Matter, and more.

In mere days, one of Apple’s biggest sci-fi shows returns for a new season.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 premieres this Friday, February 27 with one episode, followed by weekly releases through May 1.

The first season was praised by critics for offering a compelling human drama while still packing plenty of fun, monster-centric action. And based on early reviews, it sounds like the show’s creators have delivered once again with season 2.

Here’s what reviews are saying:

  • Nexus Point News: “delivers on a bigger, bolder, and better scale…[Monarch is] one of the best things to come out of the Monsterverse”
  • San Francisco Chronicle: “the smartest entry in the MonsterVerse yet”
  • Inverse: “remains one of the most unique and compelling sci-fi dramas on TV”

The general consensus from reviews is that Monarch replicates what made the first season great, while also improving the balance between character-driven storytelling and big action scenes.

Apple TV is making a big marketing push for the new season, likely in the hopes of creating another Severance-style moment for the streamer. It sounds like if viewers tune in, they shouldn’t be disappointed.
