Apple just shipped the RC (Release Candidate) version of iPadOS 26.4 for testing, which means the public launch is coming very soon. Here are the details.
iPadOS 26.4 RC arrives for pre-launch testing
Today the RC build for iPadOS 26.4 has officially arrived.
When Apple ships an RC, the intent is that it’s the final software build that ships to all users.
Today’s iPadOS 26.4 RC should therefore offer the most stable, bug-free version of the software that’s been available thus far.
It’s possible Apple has some surprise user-facing changes available in the RC too, and we’ll keep you posted if we find anything new.
Typically after an RC arrives, the software’s public launch follows about a week later—give or take a few days. So early next week is the likely launch window.
It’s not uncommon for Apple to need to ship a second RC build due to unexpected bugs. Despite plenty of internal testing, certain issues can only be uncovered once the software is on testers’ devices.
If that happens, a second iPadOS 26.4 RC could arrive either later this week or early next week. The public launch would then follow shortly thereafter.
iPadOS 26.4 is a big update for iPad users, with lots of Apple Music changes, an upgraded video experience in Apple Podcasts, the return of the Compact tab bar in Safari, and more.
