Aqara releases new Thermostat Hub W200 with Apple Adaptive Temperature support

Aqara just released the new Aqara W200 Thermostat Hub, featuring Matter 1.4 support and native integration with Apple’s new Adaptive Temperature functionality. These additions make it a compelling alternative to Nest for anyone wanting deep, system-level control within Apple Home.

HomeKit Weekly is a series focused on smart home accessories, automation tips and tricks, and everything to do with Apple’s smart home framework.

What is Apple’s Adaptive Temperature feature?

Apple’s new Adaptive Temperature feature uses your iPhone and the Home app to automatically adjust your thermostat based on your current state, whether you are at home, asleep, away, or out of town for an extended period. The promise here is that you get a comfortable house when you walk through the door and lower energy bills when the place is empty, all without having to build and manage a complex heating and cooling schedule. Nest has had a feature like this for some time, and I find it really useful.

It also supports Apple’s new Clean Energy Guidance feature. By analyzing your local power grid conditions, the thermostat makes small adjustments to your heating and cooling when the grid is utilizing cleaner energy.

Matter 1.4 support

Aqara also included a mmWave radar directly in the Aqara W200, so the display wakes up automatically when you walk by and can adjust the temperature based on actual room occupancy. You can also pair it with the Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 or the Climate Sensor W100 for individual room readings.

The Aqara W200 also operates as a Matter 1.4 hub with Thread and Zigbee support. You can connect over 50 device types to it. If you have an Aqara video doorbell or smart lock, the Aqara W200’s display even turns into a dedicated security portal where you can view live snapshots and unlock your front door with a quick tap.

“The Thermostat Hub W200 marks an important addition to Aqara’s U.S. product lineup,” said Cathy You, Aqara Senior Vice President of Global Business and Strategy. “As one of the first thermostats to support Apple Adaptive Temperature and Clean Energy Guidance, the W200 brings truly autonomous, intelligent climate control to the market. It not only fills a key gap in our portfolio, but also expands the possibilities for automation across Aqara’s rich product assortment – giving homeowners a more personalized, energy-optimized environment.”

Compatibility with your HVAC system

The Aqara W200 is designed for North American HVAC systems and is compatible with most standard setups, including furnaces, heat pumps, boilers, and more. It also includes both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, which helps ensure a reliable connection in a crowded RF environment. The Matter 1.4 certification means the W200 will work well with all major smart home ecosystems, including Apple, Google, Amazon, and SmartThings. If your current home HVAC system lacks a C-wire, Aqara also sells a C-wire adapter separately on Amazon.

Wrap up on Aqara W200

The Aqara W200 is available starting today for $159.99 through Amazon, Best Buy, and Home Depot. Aqara is also launching a Matte Kit version, available exclusively on the Apple Store starting in September for $169.99.
