Earlier today, a report indicated Apple’s foldable iPhone had hit production snags that could delay it several months. But now Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has rebutted the report, saying the iPhone Fold is “on track” for an expected September launch.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone reportedly still set for September launch
Mark Gurman writes at Bloomberg:
Apple Inc.’s first foldable phone is on track to arrive during the company’s normal iPhone launch period later this year, people with knowledge of the matter said, rebutting concerns about major manufacturing snags.
The company is scheduled to introduce the foldable model in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans haven’t been announced. Apple’s phones typically hit store shelves the week after they’re unveiled.
The report notes that Apple’s stock took a hit earlier today after Nikkei Asia indicated the iPhone Fold was having serious production issues. Clearly, sources within Apple were motivated to share positive news via Gurman.

The idea is thus far unappealing to me but my experience with annoying flip phones dates back to those of the pre smart phone era. I am still on 11 Pro Max but I will most likely purchase a new iPhone before the end of the year as after all these years (I got mind new in November 2019) the battery health is now down to 82%. I was hoping to find an even smaller new iPhone than mine if one still exists by then as I find that when I need a larger screen these days I tend to switch over to my iPad or Mac.
Not long ago, Gurman himself said that he was expecting an iPhone Fold release date that was a little bit later than iPhone 18 Pro. That’s still very possible, but it sounds like Apple is internally feeling optimistic about its targeted September launch. The report continues:
While the complexity of the new display and materials may limit initial supply for several weeks, Apple is currently operating with a plan to put the device on sale around the same time — or very soon after — the new non-foldable models, the people said.
Gurman adds an important qualifier: “Still, the release is six months away and production has yet to ramp up. That means the timing isn’t final.”
