When you are looking for a MagSafe car mount, you usually have to make a hard choice right at the start of your shopping decisions. Do you want a vent mount or a dashboard mount? Vent mounts are great because they are easy to move between cars and avoid the need for adhesives on your car’s dash, but they can sometimes block your airflow. Dashboard mounts offer a more permanent feel but can be harder to get right.
Scosche decided to skip that debate entirely with the Scosche MagicMount Charge Pro, which includes both options in the box. I prefer the vent mount because I love helping keep my iPhone cool on summer trips, where it can overheat by letting my AC keep it cool while it’s keeping my car cold.

MagSafe Monday: Every Monday, Bradley Chambers looks at the latest and greatest in the MagSafe and wireless charging industry to help you get the most out of your Apple devices that support wireless charging.
Dash or vent mount: your choice
The 2-in-1 design is the biggest selling point here. The kit includes a vent clip and a dashboard suction mount, so you can figure out what works best for your specific vehicle or move it between cars. If you frequently use rental cars when traveling or switch between family vehicles, the vent clip is a great option. It is easy to install and remove, leaving no adhesive residue. If you want something more stationary, the dashboard mount uses a strong adhesive that stays put even on bumpy roads. The magnets themselves are rare-earth neodymium, which means a really strong connection to your iPhone.
Qi2 in the car
Qi2 standardizes fast 15-watt wireless charging for the iPhone, so you get fast charging in the car. This Scosche mount is Qi2-certified, so you get the fastest possible charging speeds for your iPhone, and it’s twice as fast as the old 7.5-watt chargers that were the only option before Qi2. This speed assumes proper temperature though, which goes back to my earlier comment about the vent mount option.
Scosche, thankfully, includes a 20-watt USB-C car charger in the box, so you don’t have to worry about whether your car’s built-in USB port has enough power for Qi2 (mine does not).
The mount head uses a ball-joint system that allows 360-degree rotation. This is pretty useful if you prefer to use Apple Maps in landscape mode or if you need to tilt the phone to avoid glare on the windshield. It feels sturdy and does not sag over time, as long as it’s tight.
Wrap up on Scosche MagicMount Charge Pro
The Scosche MagicMount Charge Pro is what’s currently in my car as I prepare for vacations and other travel this summer. It brings Qi2 speeds to your car, and since it includes both the dash and vent mounting hardware along with the power adapter, it’s an easy choice for a MagSafe car charger for your iPhone and keeps your maps at a good eye levle.
You can buy the Scosche MagicMount Charge Pro on Amazon or directly from Scosche.
