Apple TV’s hit series Ted Lasso inspired viewers to “Believe,” and it seems that message resonated strongly with the show’s actors too. Dani Rojas actor Cristo Fernández has just signed a contract to become a professional soccer player.
Cristo Fernández signs contract with professional soccer team
Cristo Fernández, the actor who played “fútbol is life” Dani Rojas in Ted Lasso, has just turned his dreams into reality.
El Paso Locomotive FC announced today that it has signed Fernández as a forward. The signing follows “an extensive two-month trial with the team where [Fernández] became a regular presence in training and appeared in a preseason match against New Mexico United.”
Fernández played the game as a youth, but stepped away at 15 due to injury. Now he’s giving it another run, channeling the “Believe” energy from Ted Lasso.
Here’s what Fernández said in the El Paso press release:
“Fútbol has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart. I’m incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC – the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates – for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one.
This journey back to professional fútbol soccer is about believing in yourself, taking risks, and continuing to chase your dreams no matter how unexpected the path may be. Because as we say in Mexico: hay que seguirle echando ganas (let’s keep giving it our all). Siempre agradecido con Dios, mi familia y amistades por creer en mí. Maybe I’m just a crazy man with crazy dreams… so being here with the “Locos” actually makes perfect sense. ¡Vamos Locos!”
The team’s head coach added that Fernández‘ “passion for the game and leadership qualities for our locker room allow us to continue growing the positive culture we strive for as a club.”
It sounds a lot like Cristo Fernández is the real-life Dani Rojas, and now he gets to prove it.
If you’re interested in more Ted Lasso, season 4 premieres this August. It’s currently unknown if Rojas will make any cameo appearances. However, he is not expected to be a series regular anymore as the plot focuses on a women’s team.
