Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is coming to Mac this month

Apple has been pushing to expand Mac gaming in recent years, and a new high-profile title was recently announced: Age of Empires II is coming to macOS this month.

Age of Empires gets macOS release on Steam this month, with Mac App Store later

The Mac is about to get a beloved strategy title, adding to its growing games library.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will release Thursday, May 28 for macOS.

The Mac version will be released on Steam first, with a Mac App Store debut later in the year.

From the official press release:

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition comes complete with razor-sharp 4K visuals, a fully remastered soundtrack, and includes three expansions with the base game: Lords of the WestDynasties of India, and Dawn of the Dukes. Newcomers to the series and returning veterans alike can look forward to all the fast-paced base-building and warfare that made this game a classic, given new life over two decades of refinement and additional content.

Empire builders hungry for more will also have access to a large — and still-expanding — stable of DLC purchasable from day one. Players can explore wide-ranging content, from Return of Rome, which transplants the original Age of Empires experience into the modern engine, to The Last Chieftains — exploring the complex medieval societies of South America – which just recently released!

Another noteworthy Mac game that arrived recently was Crimson Desert, which launched on macOS the same day as other platforms—a rare feat.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition follows the more typical release pattern for Mac titles, with the macOS version coming much later than PC and console launches.
