Apple’s biggest product launches of the year are almost here, with 10+ new products coming very soon. Here are the five new Apple products I’m the most excited about.
iPhone Ultra
The first foldable iPhone is almost here, and I’m thrilled to get what’s essentially an iPhone and iPad mini in the same device.
Even though we’ve gotten plenty of leaks about hardware, iPhone Ultra’s software is what will ultimately be a huge contributor to the overall experience. So I’m fascinated to see how Apple adapts iOS 27 to feel native and more capable on a foldable.
I haven’t tried a foldable smartphone before, but everything I’ve read makes the form factor seem like the future. Apple has clearly taken its time before entering the foldable market, and my expectations are high that it will be worth the wait.
HomePad
I’ve been wanting Apple to take the smart home seriously for many years. And when Mark Gurman first broke a detailed report on the forthcoming ‘HomePad’ in late 2024, it signaled that such a shift was coming.
Everything about the HomePad sounds very appealing to me. I’m excited for Apple Photos slideshows, security camera functionality, Siri AI, playing Apple Music with lyrics onscreen, and more.
Siri AI delays led to a much longer wait for HomePad than expected. But all signs point to an imminent launch, and I’m ready to see how Apple casts vision for a new smart home era via the HomePad and other new Home products.
New Apple TV 4K
It’s been four years since the current Apple TV 4K launched. The product doesn’t need annual updates, but AI’s emergence has created a lot of potential for an overhauled experience.
I’m ready to see how Siri AI, a more powerful chip, and other hardware and software upgrades can combine to make for a worthwhile Apple TV upgrade.
With the new Apple TV 4K launching around the same time as the camera-equipped HomePad, I’m also curious to see if old rumors of a camera-equipped model might come true. FaceTime on the big screen without needing to use my iPhone would be really great.
MacBook Ultra
I’ve used an iPad Pro as my main computer for over a decade. And a big reason I made that switch in 2015 was that the Mac always lagged behind the iPad in getting innovative hardware and software features.
Apple silicon coming to the Mac has solved some of those problems. And macOS has increasingly been updated in-step with iOS and iPadOS too. But there are still several ways the Mac feels tied to the past rather than the future.
MacBook Ultra, I suspect, will change that. Bringing touch support to the Mac, plus OLED, a Dynamic Island, a new design, and possibly even a cellular option all sound very compelling. It’s the kind of Mac update I’ve been waiting for, so I can’t wait to see what Apple unveils.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4
I’m undecided whether I’m going to choose Series 12 or Ultra 4 for my new Apple Watch this year. Either way though, I’m eager to see the new models because of one key rumored upgrade: a new S-class chip built for the AI era.
Apple Watch chips don’t change very often. Even though the company does make minor updates to its S-class chips most years, CPU performance only improves about every three years. As a result, the S9 in 2023 was the last time a new Watch chip meaningfully improved.
But rumors indicate a new, more powerful chip is coming in this year’s Watch models. It will be the first one built for the AI era, and couldn’t be timed better for Siri AI.
