Apple today announced that Tap to Pay on iPhone is now available in eight additional Latin American countries, with support from six payment platforms across the region. Here are the details.
Tap to Pay on iPhone expands to eight new countries
In an update published to its Latin America and the Caribbean Newsroom, Apple announced today an expansion of Tap to Pay on iPhone across Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Peru.
Tap to Pay on iPhone allows merchants to accept in-person contactless payments using only a compatible iPhone and supported payment app, without the need for additional card readers or payment terminals.
Here’s the list of countries and payment platforms gaining support today:
- Argentina: Mercado Pago
- Colombia: SumUp, Symbiotic
- Costa Rica: Geopagos, Symbiotic, Visa Acceptance Solutions
- Dominican Republic: Azul, Visa Acceptance Solutions
- Guatemala: Geopagos, Symbiotic
- Honduras: Geopagos, Symbiotic
- Panama: Geopagos, Symbiotic
- Peru: SumUp
Apple also noted that Tap to Pay on iPhone “is compatible with contactless debit and credit cards from major payment networks, including American Express, Mastercard, and Visa.”
Apple originally announced Tap to Pay on iPhone on February 8, 2022. It was initially announced for the United States, with Stripe as the first payment platform set to support it.
Since then, it has expanded to 59 countries and regions, with Apple’s current list naming more than 100 payment service providers worldwide, including today’s additions.
