Microsoft kills Kin
Microsoft has killed the Kin project that was headed up by former MacBU head Roz Ho. Honestly, it was the pricing plans that killed these things. The initial cost and design were palatable.

Microsoft launched Project Natal as ‘Kinect’ today. You’ve probably seen it previewed a hundred times around the web.
OK, I’ll admit it, the technology looks pretty cool. I’ve been following Natal since it was previewed last year and thought that if they could get it to work, it’d be worth putting it in the family room. But does it actually work as good as it looks like it works?
Dunno. Bad signs: Microsoft just re-orged its entire entertainment division and kicked out two top execs J Allerd and Robbie Bach. That isn’t a good sign. You usually don’t fire people for doing a kick ass job.
Also, giving it the name of the Kin, which the market isn’t falling in love with…or even like with (despite the Microsoft marketing buzz) probably isn’t a good way to start it off.
Otherwise, I’m interested. Interestingly, you can pre-order the new XBOX 360 with Kinect on Amazon already? For a November/Holidays shipment?

EA Mobile has confirmed a version of its extremely popular Rock Band game for the iPhone and iPod touch. The news first emerged during an Electronic Arts presentation at the CTIA mobile trade show yesterday. Just like its console siblings, the iPhone version will offer downloadable tracks, alongside Bluetooth multi-player features designed to support up to four players.
TechCrunch informs that on the iPhone game play seems set to reflect that of its console kin, the notes flow down the fretboard in the same way, with guitar pick-shaped buttons presumably there to play notes.

Pink is now ‘Kin’. Microsoft’s phones are now appearing in Verizon’s phone database according to phoneArena. The line will be called ‘Kin’, shedding the project codename Pink. From the image, it looks like one model will be the ‘Kin One’ and the other will be ‘Kin Two’. Microsoft had so far used “Turtle” and “Pure” to denote the Pink project phones.
I think I am a pretty good bellwether of what’s happening in the technology world. I obviously love Apple products (but please don’t use the F word), so much so that I write about Apple products every day here on 9to5Mac. I’d never consider giving up my MacBook Pro. I love my iPad (almost as much as my kid does), I use an AppleTV (sometimes) and I’ve been an iPhone user since day one, hour one, minute one.
I’m also a general technology/gadget head and I’ve been trying other platforms all of this time. I have a few netbooks running Linux and Windows. I have a BluRay player and Verizon Mifi and displays made by Dell and HP. I have logitech keyboards and speakers and even a Microsoft Mouse. My house is full of tech toys.
Would you really trust someone who only uses Apple products’ opinion on technology?
On phones, I’ve used Blackberries and Windows Mobile devices for work, I’ve owned Nokias (N95, N810) and been given test units of Palm Pres and even have a demo Microsoft Kin One on my desk. I’ve never considered giving up my iPhone (which I’ve gladly paid for) for any of these. Not for a second.

Recent reports have said that Apple plans to build Facebook social networking into its iPhoneOS. Today, Patently Apple shows that Apple has been busy patenting social networking workflows and simplifying exchanges including Facebook integration.
The news comes as devices like Microsoft’s Kin try to woo Tweens with their social-only phones.
