The AI-powered answer engine startup has rebuilt its iPad app, in an attempt to broaden its appeal to students and professionals who rely on the iPad for their daily tasks. Here are the details.
More native to the iPad, aimed at students and business users
As reported by Bloomberg, Perplexity is rolling out its revamped iPad app today, with a stronger focus on its research feature, “which offers students and professionals more citations than a regular search”.
The revamped app reportedly better leverages native iPadOS features and capabilities, such as split-view. It also features a redesigned interface with a larger side panel that feels more native to the iPad, rather than just an adaptation from Perplexity’s iPhone app.
Perplexity says that its new iPad app reflects a growing demand by students and business users, who have been increasingly relying on domain-specific AI-powered research features, as well as its ambition to grow its paid subscriber user base, since research is ”a limited feature until users get on a paid tier”.
Today’s update reflects Perplexity’s increased focus on non-desktop platforms. Last month, the company launched Comet, its AI-powered browser, on Android, and said an iOS release would arrive “any day now”. Alas, that has yet to materialize.
