Spotify Prompted Playlists now work for podcasts as well as music

Spotify Prompted Playlists were first launched in New Zealand late last year before rolling out to the US and Canada in January. The feature lets you use natural language to describe what you want to hear, and the streaming service will create an AI-powered music playlist to match.

The company has now expanded the AI tool to podcasts, stating that it will use a mix of three factors to generate personalized podcast playlists for you …

The music version of the feature first launched in December before reaching the US in January.

Prompted Playlist lets you describe exactly what you want to hear and set the rules for your personalized playlist […] Users can set the playlist to refresh daily or weekly. Once the playlist is created, they can either edit their original prompt or start from scratch if they don’t like the result.

Engadget reports that this feature is now available for podcasts too.

Spotify gives some examples of the kinds of prompts that could be used to generate podcast playlists, which include a user asking the bot to build a playlist “all about science and innovation” and another “with the biggest entertainment news from the past few days.”

The company says that it will use three factors to create your playlist of recommended podcast content:

  • Your natural-language prompt
  • Your listening history
  • Current world events

It’s limited to premium subscribers and is currently rolling out in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, and Sweden. Typically these updates can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to fully propagate.
