Apple Maps expands Detailed City Experience to Rome and Naples

Apple Maps users in Rome and Naples can now see more detailed versions of both cities, including 3D landmarks, lane markings, crosswalks, transit routes, and road-level guidance for complex interchanges. Here are the details.

Detailed City Experience now available in Rome and Naples

First announced in 2021 with initial support for San Francisco, London, Los Angeles, and New York, the Apple Maps Detailed City Experience is now available in 37 cities, including its newly released support for Rome and Naples.

This means users can now see more detailed 3D versions of famous landmarks and attractions, including Rome’s Fontana di Trevi and Naples’s Castel dell’Ovo. Apple Maps will also more clearly identify prominent locations across both cities, such as Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, and L’antica Pizzeria da Michele in Naples.

Additionally, users can rely on more detailed roads and landscape information, including road-level views when approaching complex interchanges. Anyone who’s experienced Italian traffic will surely see the value in the latter.

Apple says Rome’s Detailed City Experience includes 3D landmarks such as Apple Via del Corso, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Borghese Gallery and Museum, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Navona, and Trevi Fountain. Meanwhile, users browsing Naples will see landmarks such as the Basilica Reale Pontificia di San Francesco di Paola at Piazza del Plebiscito, Castel dell’Ovo, and Castel Nuovo.

Apple Maps’ expansion of Detailed City Experience to Rome and Naples comes after its launch in Milan earlier this year.
