Spotify to offer AI tool that will let subscribers remix songs and cover music

As Spotify users around the world await the return of their good old fashioned app icon, the company has a handful of news to share in a range of areas. New features coming soon include AI-powered remix tools, concert ticket reservations, and more.

Spotify strikes deal with major label to license fan-made covers and remixes

First, Spotify and Universal Music Group have reached “landmark licensing agreements” that will enable fan-made music covers and remixes on the platform.

Spotify says it will “launch a new tool allowing fans to create covers and remixes of their favorite songs from participating artists and songwriters.”

The company adds that the new tool will be “powered by generative AI technology” and unlock both new revenue streams and music discovery.

“It introduces a creation model where artists and songwriters can directly share in the value generated through AI-driven licensed covers and remixes on the Spotify platform,” the company says.

Spotify describes the new AI-powered remix and fan-made cover creation tool as a paid add-on for Spotify Premium subscribers.

It certainly sounds like Spotify’s most ambitious AI play so far. The company has already released an AI DJ feature, and there’s a special Claude connector for music and podcast features as well.

Concert tickets are getting an upgrade with Reserved feature

Meanwhile, Spotify is stepping up its game when it comes to connecting users with concert tickets.

A new feature called Reserved promises to hold up to two concert tickets for purchase for Premium subscribers in the United States.

Spotify is billing Reserved as a feature for true fans and not casual concertgoers (or ticket scalpers). That’s because the feature will be based on artist listening history.

There’s a lot of fine print involved, and who knows if Reserved can actually deliver, but it sounds promising. You can learn more about Reserved from Spotify here.

Spotify has also announced new changes for podcasts and audiobooks coming soon. The updates are all part of Spotify’s Investor Day 2026 news.

Now back to monitoring the situation as it relates to Spotify’s controversial-but-temporary disco ball app icon…
