Apple announces huge iOS 27 speed improvements for iPhone

Today during its WWDC keynote, Apple introduced major performance improvements across its platforms, including iOS 27 for iPhone. Here are the details.

Apple touts big speed gains coming in iOS 27 thanks to bug fixes and refinements

As had been rumored leading up to today, Apple has spent extra time this year working on bug fixes and performance improvements for iOS 27.

What does that mean for users? That iOS 27 will feel much faster than iOS 26 did—and Apple’s other platforms benefit too.

Here are some specific examples Apple gave:

  • Up to 30% faster app launches
  • Up to 70% faster loading of new captures in Photos
  • Up to 80% faster AirDrop transfers
  • Up to 5x faster browsing and transfers in Files for iPadOS

There are a ton of other speed improvements across the board, including faster device switching between Wi-Fi and Cellular connections.

Essentially, Apple has put a major focus on ensuring iOS 27 runs far faster than iOS 26—and it will impact nearly everything you do on your iPhone.

Apple also confirmed that iOS 27 will run on all the same iPhone models as iOS 26.
