iOS 27 has new app icon designs for many iPhone apps

Last year with iOS 26, Apple redesigned its full lineup of app icons for iPhone. But just one year later, iOS 27 has even more design changes for many app icons.

iOS 27 changes app icons again as part of Liquid Glass refinements

Apple unveiled iOS 27 earlier today, and the developer beta is available now.

One thing users will notice upon installing iOS 27 is that many iPhone app icons look noticeably different than before.

Some users noticed that iOS 26’s icons could appear blurry. But that’s not at all the case with iOS 27’s revisions.

iOS 27’s new app icons are “sharper and more detailed,” per Apple’s description. And it really shows.

To my eyes, they look like a nice balance between iOS 26’s Liquid Glass looks and the previous iOS 18 versions.

You can see a sampling of the icons above. Changes apply to many of Apple’s own apps, with only a handful of exceptions.

Additionally, app icons in iOS 27 beta 1 no longer have the shimmering effect that iOS 26 introduced when you move your iPhone around. That motion-based effect seems to have been entirely removed.
