Spotify starts rolling out audiobooks to more than 180 markets

Spotify today announced a global rollout of its audiobooks section, giving users in more than 180 markets access to over 350,000 titles spanning more than 120 languages. Here are the details.

Audiobooks coming to 750+ million Spotify users

Four years after launching audiobooks in the U.S., and following a rather limited expansion into select countries in the years since, Spotify today announced that audiobooks are finally coming to more than 180 markets.

As Spotify explained in a blog post, the rollout begins today and will continue through the end of 2026, expanding audiobook access from 22 markets to more than 180 and making the service available to more than 750 million people worldwide.

Users in newly supported markets will have access to more than 350,000 titles, with additional catalogs available in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, and other languages.

Access will vary depending on the market. Eligible Premium subscribers in countries including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway, Peru, Italy, Spain, and Portugal will get 12 hours of audiobook listening each month as part of their existing subscription.

Spotify is also expanding Audiobooks+, an add-on that gives subscribers additional listening hours each month. The service will serve as the primary way to access audiobooks in markets across Africa and Asia, as well as Argentina.

Users will also be able to purchase individual audiobooks outright, while pricing and availability will vary by market.

The company also announced an update to Page Match, its feature for switching between physical or digital books and their audiobook versions. Users can now scan a book’s ISBN barcode, and then enter a page number to find the corresponding point in the audiobook. Spotify added that the feature now works in more than 30 languages.

Audiobooks+ is also expanding to Student plans in Ireland, Belgium, Austria, and Finland beginning in November. Spotify says the add-on has surpassed 1 million subscribers since launching just over a year ago and now generates more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

According to Spotify, monthly audiobook listeners grew nearly 40% over the past year, while total listening hours increased by more than 30%.
