iOS 7 untethered Jailbreak released from Evasi0n

Just in time for Christmas, the Evasi0n team has released an iOS 7 compatible Jailbreak. I’ve just jailbroken my wife’s iOS iPhone 5s (long story) so I’m pretty sure it is legit.

Compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4

The process is extremely straightforward and took about 5 minutes to complete on an iPhone 5s.

Update: Cydia creator @Saurik/Jay Freeman has chimed in on the Jailbreak noting there might be some rough waters ahead. In particular he wasn’t made aware of the jailbreak and that the Cydia build isn’t official nor updated. More updates will be needed as things fall into place.

[tweet https://twitter.com/saurik/status/414746896809201664]

The delivery of the Jailbreak in its current form may be attributable to @evad3rs team members that were spooked that their jailbreak was sold to a private buyer.

Requirements

  • 5 minutes of your time!
  • A computer, running Windows (XP minimum), Mac OS X (10.6 minimum) or Linux (x86 / x86_64)
  • iTunes installed if you’re running Windows
  • An iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4 (you may check in Settings / General / About => Version)
  • A USB cable to connect the device to the computer

Important! Read me!

  • Backup your device using iTunes (or iCloud) before using evasi0n. If something breaks, you’ll always be able to recover your data.
  • Please disable the lock passcode of your iOS device before using evasi0n. It can cause issues.
  • Avoid all iOS and iTunes related tasks until evasi0n is complete. Why not just enjoy a brief break from the computer to stretch your legs?
  • If the process gets stuck somewhere, it’s safe to restart the program, reboot the device (if necessary by holding down Power and Home until it shuts down), and rerun the process.
  • If you get an error on OS X 10.8 saying that evasi0n can’t be opened, control-click (or right-click) the app and on the revealed context menu, choose ‘Open.’ On the ensuing dialogue box, choose ‘Open’ as well.

    Hooray! Awesome legends!

  3. Kemar W (@toohotz) - 11 years ago

7.1 beta 2 also works as I’m running it on my iPhone 5 so it’s not limited up to 7.0.4. (also confirmed in the read me when downloaded)

  4. I got stuck at final reboot.

  5. Felonius NoSpamius - 11 years ago

Lame. Call me when it’s ready and stable so I can change out this douchey looking UI and go back to the iOS6 look.

    • Tallest Skil - 11 years ago

      #itscooltohateios7

Just shut up and go away.

      • Well he has a point. At least with the icons. The icons in iOS 7 are _terrible_. This will be the first time I’ll be using a 3rd party skin. I bet a skin will be made that simply restores all the beautiful iOS 6 icons. I mean look at the Photos icon and the Game Center icon. Who came up with this crap?

      • Tallest Skil - 11 years ago

        Enjoy all that subjectivity.

I get stuck in a reboot loop using an ipad2 on iOS 7.0.4

    • Sumbul Iqbal - 11 years ago

Same here, doesn’t work for Ipad 2 IOS 7.04

      • Jan Polak (@nikolividel) - 11 years ago

        Hello!
Confirmed. It doesnt work on iPad 2 with iOS 7.0.4.

      • Joshua Chambers - 11 years ago

It said on the page to avoid the jailbreak if using an ipad 2 on any firmware. Read first then proceed.

      • Bayara Gombosuren - 11 years ago

ipad 2, ios 7.0.4 says ”failed during configuring system (1/2), try agan’ and on and on =((

  7. This is bad. It should have been delayed until 7.1 was released. Now Apple will make sure this is killed in 7.1 and we’ll have to stay on 7.0.4 for a long time, perhaps until 8. comes out.

    • telecastle - 11 years ago

If the jailbreak was actually sold to a third-party, it would have been released soon anyway. It’s not quite ready yet since Cydia is not compatible with it yet. It also appears that @evad3rs are recommending a full restore for those who updated to 7.04 over the air. Since Apple is about to release 7.1, the window to jailbreak under 7.04 may be very short. Apple may stop signing 7.04 very soon so even a full restore to 7.04 may not be possible for those who are running over-the-air 7.04.

My iPhone 5S is stuck on Apple Logo , now what to do

  9. aeronmichaelangelo - 11 years ago

Not very smart, now 7.1 will somehow break it and convince many jail breakers to stay on an unpatched version of iOS 7.

Can someone give me a level-headed reason why I would even want to jailbreak my phone anymore?

    • telecastle - 11 years ago

My3G for FaceTime over 3G on iPhone 4 and iPad 2 – not officially supported without a jailbreak.

Mouse support for the iPad – you can turn your iPad into a true laptop replacement. Especially if you are running VMs of Windows, OS X, and/or Linux, you can get a full desktop experience on your iPad with a mouse support using the standard Apple Bluetooth stack. The mouse function is fully supported in Jump Desktop – an official iOS RDP and VNC client app available from the App Store.

      • Tim Sanders - 11 years ago

also you can have f.lux — the SOLE reason I even jailbreak — and it’s how I found out about it too! It turns your screen more yellow / orange at night to mimic natural light levels like fire at night and bright sunlight during the day, it’s free too!

Hopefully Apple will let f.lux into the app store, then I won’t need to jailbreak anymore!

      • aeronmichaelangelo - 11 years ago

I have a 5S, so none of this applies to me. The mouse support for remote desktop control is a nice idea though. Is there no must-have software from Cydia that simply cannot be found on the App Store?

      • telecastle - 11 years ago

It’s a must have if you have an iPad 2 or iPhone 4 – both numbering in tens of millions. Not being able to do FaceTime over 3G is a pretty significant limitation.

    • Lincoln Sills - 11 years ago

Here is a list of 70+ tweaks and apps that that enable different functionality if you jailbreak. I made about this list about 7 months ago and will update it as the tweaks become updated for iOS 7. The answer telecastle gave was not a good representation of “WHY” to jailbreak.

I’m sure there are many that I missed and 9to5mac will have again, but this is what I did to help me.

      http://goo.gl/s1tIoc

      • Lincoln Sills - 11 years ago

*9to5mac will have their list up again soon.

      • aeronmichaelangelo - 11 years ago

So many of those apps are either irrelevant because of iOS 7 or will most definitely need to be updated to work properly.

For me, there has to be a legitimate reason. Not just a “Now I can do this thing!” thing. There’s a couple of items on that list that sound nice if they were officially baked into iOS, but they’re not enough to make me want to go to the trouble of installing what will certainly be a short-lived jailbreak. The benefits of keeping my phone up to date far outweigh screen tinting.

But given the news that’s coming out now about this jailbreak, I hope no one uses it just for safety’s sake.

  10. Arif (@arifullahworld) - 11 years ago

It maybe a bad move, but the jailbreak is here. Thank evasi0n for their efforts. If you read the readme provided, iOS 7.1beta2 is supported; so there is a chance 7.1 will be released without this jailbreak being patched; if evad3rs can keep down on the exploits used.

  11. Richard Smith - 11 years ago

For those of you whining that Evasion should have waited for 7.1. Simple answer; don’t do it and go get an android or windows phone. I’ll go out on a limb here and guess you’re the same type that wants iPhone beta’s without paying $99 for a developer account…

    • carigis (@carigis) - 11 years ago

uhm.. you don’t need a developers account to run any beta’s as far as I can remember..

    • Tallest Skil - 11 years ago

How is that at all a reply to what they’re saying?

      • Yeah, that’s like the complete opposite. People that want this NOW are the ones more likely to be running pirated betas.

      • Richard Smith - 11 years ago

Hey Skil: #1 I was referencing Anderson’s complaint. #2 It was so nice for months reading comments without your curt, know it all responses. Remember when you told me there will be no iPad Mini?

      • Tallest Skil - 11 years ago

        1. Maybe you should have actually replied to him, then.

        2. I can’t be held responsible for idiotic decisions to make crap products. I wouldn’t have said iPod socks would exist, either. The 7.9” screen remains unusable as a tablet, by the way.

  12. Rick Fuller - 11 years ago

Phone won’t boot after jailbreak…stuck at Apple logo.

  13. Brandon Scott Bauer - 11 years ago

  18. Christian Rogers - 11 years ago

seriously guys? its not that bad and be thankful with that we got . Its the holidays have some christmas spirit . You guys are like a bunch of kids on christmas day that got an iPhone 5 instead of an iPhone 5s or 5c .

  19. Tyson Edwards - 11 years ago

Make sure that you are careful when it comes to this jailbreak.

Claims are coming out on Twitter of an obfuscated binary payload being installed and granted root privileges, provided by a Chinese company in exchange for a million dollars. Should that be true, it could allow for a backdoor to your phone to collect passwords, credit card info, etc.

Give it a couple days to see whether there is truly cause for concern.

In any case, most jailbreak apps don’t even run due to not yet being updated to work with iOS 7 and can cause reboot loops mandating a restore.

  20. JackBG (@IDanov) - 11 years ago

Evad3rs made the jailbreak and got paid by Chinese. They received 1m US in exchange of having a Chinese app store. Cydia can be used but crashes, maybe thats why Saurik was kept in the dark. Here is the link with screen shots

  21. John Jung - 11 years ago

For those who are complaining and saying its not smart…then create your own jailbreak program. Because i think people whi are creating this are actually smarter than us.

  22. I jailbroke by ipad and now its stuck with the apple logo. i completed almost 99% and it was just approaching the final re-boot. I am running ios 7.0.4 on ipad 2. Its quiet disappointing. Did someone else had the same issue? I am restoring all over again and unfortunately didnt make any back-up. :(

    • Charesa Cannaday - 11 years ago

Yup same problem here with my iPad 2 wifi hope they fix it really soon. I also heard
that all iPad 2’s will do the same thing no matter what until they figure out a fix.

      • Joshua Chambers - 11 years ago

You should have read the part where it said *IMPORTANT READ ME!!* iPad 2 was having problems with the jailbreak.

      • Mizzpink.C (@Truepink_11) - 11 years ago

I did read it after the fact but it’s okay because I needed to restore my iPad any way. Just can’t wait until it’s all fixed.

  23. junaid shuja - 11 years ago

iOS7 is android eye-candy garbage. Where is the iOS6 jailbreak for us real users?

    • Tallest Skil - 11 years ago

“Real users” aren’t complete idiots. Enjoy never having new apps.

      • Lance Newcomb - 11 years ago

Oh thats right, you’ve never met any real users. You’re too busy getting banned from real forums and trolling here.

      • Tallest Skil - 11 years ago

So you have absolutely no argument whatsoever, cannot provide any support for it when pressured, believe you are “right” to use old software despite overwhelming proof to the contrary, and decide insults are the way to win.

        Enjoy your life.

      • Lance Newcomb - 11 years ago

Coming from a troll, your words mean absolutely nothing to me or anyone else.

Keep wasting your life, its great entertainment for us.

        >Coming from a troll,

Glad to see you admit it. Anyone with sense can read your posts and know you’ve no sources.

      • Lance Newcomb - 11 years ago

Sorry, your attempt at trolling me has failed again. Everyone already knows who/what you are.

In other words, how pathetic can you get?

Sorry, your attempt at trolling me has failed again. You aren’t even able to quote the correct text! How sad.

WordPress doesn’t allow for quoting beyond the second comment.

Sorry, your attempt at trolling me has failed again. You can’t even grasp the concept of “Copy-n-paste”?
        “Go get ‘em, tiger.”
Oh look, I just quoted the 10th comment.

Secondly, you didn’t quote anything, you pulled your “quote” out from under your bridge.

  29. Its stuck on the Apple logo because you updated your iDevice over the air. Restore your devices on iTunes and update it there. The jailbreak should work after

  30. Jesu Nassi - 11 years ago

    IMPORTANT
There should say in the recommendations that, you should have your device restored or fully updated via itunes before the jail brake process or it would end up with the apple logo bug, PUT IT UP, PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THIS

I have Ipad 2 wifi its on 7.04

“If you get an error on OS X 10.8 saying that evasi0n can’t be opened, control-click (or right-click) the app and on the revealed context menu, choose ‘Open.’ On the ensuing dialogue box, choose ‘Open’ as well”

FIX Stuck in APPLE LOGO after jailbreak 7.x

U need to go into DFU mode to restore.

With your device connected to your computer, hold the power (lock) button and home button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the home button for another 15 seconds.

If you’ve successfully entered DFU mode, the device screen will be black and iTunes will say it’s in recovery.

    DONE.

  43. Octavio Corona - 11 years ago

i accidentally pressed the evasi0n app twice and i tried to restore but it wont work. my computer recognizes my phone but not itunes plz help

  44. Jonathan Burns - 11 years ago

NOTE: To avoid getting stuck on Apple logo, you must have an iDevice that HAS NOT been updated OTA (over the air). If you have, go onto itunes, backup and restore. Then repeat Jailbreak process. Hope this helps.

  45. any way to do it without sim card?
