Bloomberg: Apple pushes back 12.9-inch iPad Pro production to September

The 12.9-inch “iPad Pro” that was expected to make its first public appearance around April before being pushed back to Q2 has been postponed yet again, a new Bloomberg report says. The new release date is reportedly some time in September, right around the next-gen iPhone launch.

This delay is said to be the result of display panel supply problems…

The larger tablet is expected to include an A8X processor built by Apple, and is far enough along in the development process that we’re already starting to see leaked molds, supposed manufacturing renders, and even manufacturing schematics that claim the device will run on an A9 chip and cite the name as the “iPad Air Plus.”

Pushing the bigger iPad back to the same time as an iPhone launch makes a lot of sense, especially if both will run on the same A9 processor (as at least one rumor has suggested) or share other features. In fact, Apple hasn’t released an iPad this early in the year since the iPad 3 (“The New iPad”) launched in 2012. The fourth-generation iPad and both models of the iPad Air—as well as all iterations of the iPad mini—have been released near the end of the year.

I would definitely buy the bigger iPad “IF” it included am improvement in the area of a stylus and pressure sensitivity either integrated into the stylus or the screen. I use my iPad for work and school by taking notes, sketches, and artwork. For quick things, it works, but lengthy projects or things that require precision its impractical.

Why is the colour of the, so called, iPad Air Plus different to the two iPad’s on top. Apple is notorious for its consistent aluminium (aluminum) perfection. If there isn’t a shadow (or change in shade) on either of the two stacked iPad’s on top there should be no difference in the colour of the aluminium on the lower iPad. The clever use of pixelation, isn’t that clever, you can see clear distortion of pixels rainbow over the On/Off Sleep/Wake button on the lower iPad when zoomed in (plus the ridiculous colour). Surely you cannot believe this image is genuine!

My kids would really like a larger one – we currently watch “TV” in our dining room on the 10″ – yes I could get a wall mounted LCD, but this way is so much more elegant – it goes back on the dock and isn’t sitting there on the wall, blank.

This happens every year. Rumors of a late Winter / early Spring iPad or iPhone get turned into a Fall release due to rumored component issues. Why not just start the rumor with a Fall release to begin with?

I believe the iPad ‘Pro’ is not intended for primarily consumers, it is meant for POS and other commercial applications. Partially for the new IBM relationship….

I want an iPad that will compete with the Surface Pro 3. I don’t care if it’s bigger if it doesn’t run full OS.

I hope that we are going to see force touch make its way into this product this year. Force touch could make for some interesting uses in conjuction with a pen device…

I think the iPad Air Plus (iPad Pro) will be great for business and a huge success. Although I already own two iPads (iPad 2 and Mini) I can see the possibility of me using it primarily to display Logic Pro X’s mixer via the Logic Remote App as a secondary screen.

Give us an iPad with 256 GB, please! That’s all I want! (yeah, I like putting lots of shit on my iPad… it’s my right!)

I really don’t see the point of this, except if it had a pressure sensitive stylus. But even then it would be an Apple art tool mainly. So how valuable is that to the mass market…

  12. So if this is going to be the iPad Air Plus, then my question is: Will Apple release an iPhone 6s Mini? (of the 4 inch variety)
