Poll: Should Apple give its other products the rose gold/gold/space gray treatment?

Yesterday Apple updated its 12-inch MacBook with some refreshed internal components and new a rose gold color. We already heard you loud and clear when we asked if Apple should bring new color options with the iPhone 7, but should it also give its other products and accessories the rose gold, gold, space gray treatment?

As a Mac Pro user, I was a bit disappointed but understanding that Apple didn’t have a blacked out keyboard and mouse (something like on its MacBook Pros) to go along with the new design back in 2013. But now that it offers MacBook, a much more mainstream product, in gold, rose gold, and space gray color options, it’s starting to make a lot more sense for Apple to bring those colors to its accessories and perhaps other Macs as well. Space Gray iMac anyone?

The concept above from Ferra.ru imagines some other Apple products in rose gold—iMac, MacBook Air, and Apple’s keyboard, trackpad, and mouse accessories. And at least one of those product lines, the MacBook Air, is due for an update if Apple doesn’t plan on replacing it entirely with the 12-inch MacBook and wherever it ends up taking the Pro line.

And that brings us to today’s poll question. What do you think of Apple’s other products in rose gold or other color options? Should Apple give its other products the rose gold/gold/space gray treatment?

How about this: offering the consumer the options of which keyboard/color combination he or she wants. If one color exists in one of their products it should be available in all of their products. I prefer space gray so all my iDevices are this color. For someone who prefers Rose Gold it should be available as a color selection in all of their devices.

I don’t care what colors are offered. If enough want chartreuse, and are willing to pay a $50 premium to get it, then I say Apple should go for it. Gold iPhones sold in India carry a $100 price premium, so why not a $50 premium here?

As for me white is just fine.

NOOOOOOOOO! The rose is so absolutely hideous!

To each their own. I really dislike the color options they have. I don’t think they have offered anything more compelling than the colors they had already offered.

I really dig their current colors but gold or rose gold is a LITTLE loud on an iMac…at least an iMac with the current design.

The magic accessories and IMac look hideous in this rendering.

Now pretend you are a teenaged girl……you would probably feel they were just right for your dorm room.

I don’t care for Rose Gold personally. But I’m all about space grey. If I could have a space grey keyboard and mouse with an Apple branded display for a space grey MacBook, I’d be a happy person.

Instead of rose gold(pink gold as Samsung call it) Apple should offer a couple more products for project red. Would be nice to see a red iPhone or iPad.

    What happened to Black

    • Gaudy puke is the new black it seems. Most people forget that there are only actually two important colors for iDevices – black and white. White appearing on every device that doesn’t feature a “space grey” back (aka every device that looks like poop – but as long as they generate sales I’m OK with it :) ).

Can’t hurt to have extra options to please everyone, but the Macbook Air is about to die, and I’m not sure that people who buy MBPs or iMacs care as much about colours as the general public. Although, I continually come across friends and family (usually the less savvy ones) who buy MBPs and don’t need them. So maybe there’s a market for them. And Maybe if they had more colours to choose from there’d be more interest in colours on pro machines. Not sure an iMac would look any good in either of the golds.

Just the MacBook Pro line. Space Gray MacBook Pro, please.

    • taoprophet420 - 9 years ago

I prefer space gray when it was more of a slate color. The space gray of the 9.7″ iPad Pro is pretty light.

Honestly I think Apple should start matching the front and back colors of their iPhone or at least give you the choice of let say the Gold iPhone with either a white front or black front I hate how they have the Space Grey iPhone with a Black front and the other 3 color options you only have the choice of a white front.

I’d like for them to have brighter colors, but just because I CAN buy a gold mac doesn’t mean I have to buy one

  12. Howie Isaacks - 9 years ago

Space Grey, yes. Rose gold and gold, no. I would love a Space Grey MacBook Pro!

  13. jetblackrx89 - 9 years ago

No. Apple has stated a few times that they like to give color options to products closet to their “personal” end of the spectrum like Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and more recently, the MacBook. This would be out of place for things like an iMac and its accessories which would never leave the home or office.

They can do whatever they want to the outsides, the troubles are with the insides.

  15. leehardacre - 9 years ago

    I want a black/gold or gold/black iPhone first.

  16. Rich Davis (@RichDavis9) - 9 years ago

I would rather see better specs than color options. The more SKUs Apple has, the higher their inventory costs can reach because they are carrying too many SKU’s.

  17. Ramon (@akfg_fan) - 9 years ago

Only space gray or black, gold and rose gold are to flashy in my opinion.

  18. SKR Imaging - 9 years ago

Space Grey iMac would be cool.. also 15 inch Macbook Pro in Space Grey would look sick.. Rose Gold and Gold hurts my eyes :)

Bring back slate from the iPhone 5 and put it on the rMBP

Shocked to see such a high number of votes for yes. Maybe it is largely driven by the space grey option, which makes sense given many MacBook Pro users are ThinkPad converts. Gold and Rose Gold (AKA Pink Silver) ARE NOT GOLD! They are gross colors added during anodization. Why would someone want those colors? I would love to see how many gold iphones, ipads, and MacBooks are actually sold in comparison to the silver and space grey versions.

    • Judging by what I see on the streets every day, a LOT of units of those “gross colors” are sold each and every day.

You forgot about Asian market especially in China where people are all into Gold/Rose Gold.
Have you seen Rose Gold Rolex, the Daytona?

  21. No, just paint it black.

  22. Matt Sims (@Mercifull) - 9 years ago

I’d prefer the return of space black.

  23. gkbrown - 9 years ago

I’d like to see Apple revive some of their more fun designs, like the original iMac and iBook, or the “Luxo lamp” iMac. Everything they build now just seems like an attempt to be “cool” rather than “enjoyable”.

  24. Abedoss - 9 years ago

I hate all the gold colors that Apple use in thier products.

  25. tmrjij718 - 9 years ago

I would enjoy a Space Grey MBP but I always hoped they would find a blue option.

  26. André Hedegaard - 9 years ago

Only muslims like the gold options. All other westerners prefer the traditional colours.
I say no – don’t rape the hardware lineup with atrocious colour choices!
