Spotify opens artist submissions for unreleased music to be featured on playlists without labels

Spotify is today rolling out a new beta feature for Spotify for Artists and Spotify Analytics that lets artists and labels more easily share unreleased music with Spotify, letting curators create better playlists and better exposure.

Spotify says submissions should give as much information as possible. Data such as genre and mood will help curators figure out where they best fit. Other data such as what instruments are on the track, whether or not it’s a cover will also help.

Editors will be searching through submissions based on the information you share to find unreleased music to consider for their playlists. The song and all the info you add about it will also impact our personalized recommendations. For example, as long as you tag and submit your track seven days in advance, the song you select will automatically appear in every one of your followers’ Release Radar playlists. This way you have control over which single you’re promoting to your fans.

The company wants to make it clear right out of the gate that nobody will be able to pay for a spot in an editorial playlist. The playlists are created with users in mind, not the other way around.

Again, this is a beta product, but artists, labels, and managers will be able to create a submission through their Artists or Analytics accounts.
