YouTube testing new ‘Explore’ tab w/ broader personalized video recommendations

In an effort to be more transparent, YouTube announced via a tweet that it is testing a new Explore tab for iOS users, rolling out today.

The video platform says that the feature will begin rolling out to a small number of users today, with more testing in the coming weeks.

Will help you discover more videos, topics and channels that you might not otherwise see. We also hope Explore will be a space where creators of all sizes, including emerging creators, can have their content discovered.

YouTube wants to make it clear that this is a test feature that will affect a small number of users. This will not replace the Trending tab, but will work alongside it. It’s unclear if YouTube plans on replacing Trending altogether in a future update.

This new section of the app focuses on helping users find videos they may not have found on their own, but still offering personalized recommendations.

As usual, YouTube’s test groups are purely random and there’s no way to sign-up to be included. If the past is any indication, this feature may see a public rollout this fall for all platforms.
