Alleged iPhone SE 4 dummy units show iPhone 14 design, apparent ‘Plus’ size option

Some new images of iPhone SE 4 dummy units have been shared by Japanese Apple blog Macotakara today, showcasing a similar form factor to the iPhone 14, as we’d been expecting. The blog also highlights compatibility with existing iPhone 14 cases, and an alleged larger size option – which is unlikely to come to fruition.

iPhone SE 4 dummys

Macotakara regularly shares dummy units of upcoming iPhone models, and they often provide some sort of idea of what to expect from future iPhones. It’s no different this year around, and the mockups align with essentially all previous rumors.

The dummy units have a single rear camera, a mute switch rather than an action button, and a smaller notch with Face ID at the top.

The dimensions of the dummy unit are 146.7mm x 71.5mm x 7.8mm, identical to the existing iPhone 14. According to the blog, soft TPU cases for iPhone 14 fit just fine, although the camera cutout is excessive, as the iPhone 14 had a dual camera setup, vs the single camera of the upcoming iPhone SE 4.

They also note that the mute switch is apparently slightly smaller than the iPhone 14, although the volume buttons and side button are about the same.

Larger size option: unlikely

According to the blog, theres also apparently a larger size option, with the same size as the iPhone 14 Plus (which they incorrectly refer to as 6.5-inch, in reality its 6.7-inch).

It’s unlikely that this actually translates to anything, given the fact that there has previously been zero reporting regarding a larger size option for the upcoming iPhone SE 4. While it would be an interesting move, something thats long been speculated on – it probably isn’t happening.

Macotakara claims that the “final precision design and size expansion” have not been decided, and that theres a “possibility” there will only be one size.

I’d say that it’s likely there’ll only be one size. Generally speaking, new Apple products that’d never been rumored don’t pop up this late into development, and if there was a larger iPhone SE 4 on the way, it’s extremely unlikely we’d only just be learning about it for the first time.

There certainly won’t be a larger iPhone SE 4 at launch in the spring, although there’s always the rare possibility of it launching far later than the smaller model.

Wrap up

Regardless of whether or not we get a larger size option, iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch next spring with a 6.1-inch OLED display, an A18 chip with support for Apple Intelligence, and a single rear camera system, sharing the same 48MP sensor as the iPhone 15. It’s also expected to debut Apple’s first ever 5G modem.

Are you looking forward to the iPhone SE 4? Are you skeptical of there being a larger size option like we are? Let us know in the comments.
