Instagram’s new ‘trial reels’ feature lets creators test content with non-followers

Meta is introducing a new way for creators to test content performance before sharing with followers. The new Instagram feature called trial reels allows creators to share videos with non-followers as a way to gauge reactions. This will allow creators to push the most engaging videos to their actively following audience.

Meta explains how to create a trial reel on Instagram:

To share a reel as a trial, simply take the usual steps to create a reel, but before sharing, tap the toggle to turn on “Trial.” After sharing your trial reel, you can find it by visiting your profile, where it will appear alongside any drafts you have.

Only you will be able to see that your reel is a trial. It will not be shown to other people on your profile’s main grid or Reels tab unless you later decide to share it with everyone, and your followers won’t see the trial reel in their feed or Reels tab. […]

The company adds that useful insights and metrics will become available 24 hours after posting the trial reel. Trial reels that perform well can optionally be shared automatically with followers after 72 hours.

The new Trial Reels feature is having a trial period of its own to start. Meta says the new tool is arriving today for a select audience before global availability to all eligible creators in the weeks to follow.
