HomeKit Weekly: Aqara’s W100 Climate Sensor brings precision monitoring and smart control to your HomeKit setup

Aqara W100

Last night, I had forgotten to take my upstairs Nest off Eco mode, and I was shocked to see the difference in one of my son’s rooms based on my Nest Temperature Sensor. In my dream world, I’d have a variable system that could heat and cool rooms independently, but nevertheless, I didn’t buy bitcoin when it was $1, so I cannot afford that. With that being said, I do like having the knowledge of what’s happening in individual rooms and having that data in HomeKit. The new Aqara W100 Climate Sensor is a new way to do that with a built-in screen.

MagSafe Monday: ArmorGo Magnetic Wallet Stand adds a solid kickstand and RFID protection in a slim design

ArmorGo Magnetic Wallet

MagSafe accessories continue to be a mix of great ideas and daily annoyances, but I keep trying them all. I’ve tried enough wallets to fill a drawer in my desk, and most of them get something right, but miss on a few minor things. Recently, I’ve been trying some new wallets that do more than hold credit cards. That’s what caught my eye with the BENKS ArmorGo Magnetic Wallet Stand, and I’ve been using it for the past few weeks.

WWDC has come and gone once again, and we have a lot to digest and test over the summer, but there are some notable enhancements for IT teams who manage Apple fleets coming this fall. The most important announcement, in my opinion, is a better way to move between device management vendors.

HomeKit Weekly: Protect your wood floors with a HomeKit-enabled water leak sensor from FIBARO

HomeKit water leak sensor

Water damage is one of my biggest fears as a homeowner. With hardwood floors throughout my house, even a small leak could turn into a massive repair bill and a huge inconvenience. A slow drip from a sink can quickly become thousands of dollars in damage for your floors and cabinets. Thankfully, with a HomeKit-enabled flood sensor from FIBARO, you can catch leaks early and avoid a major headache. The FIBARO water leak sensor is one of my oldest HomeKit devices I am using, but it still works great.

MagSafe Monday: UGREEN’s 145W Power Bank is a MagSafe beast that charges everything

UGREEN Nexode Power Bank

Over the years, I’ve tested my fair share of portable battery packs and desk docks. Most of them fall into two categories: slim and convenient or bulky and powerful. The UGREEN Nexode Power Bank manages to be both. It’s MagSafe compatible, supports Qi2, and has enough power to top off a MacBook Pro in less than an hour. If you’re looking for one device that can charge your whole Apple setup at once, this might be the one. I use it daily.

GenAI is not coming to the enterprise security space. It is already here and being used to run faster phishing, smarter malware, and more convincing spoofing campaigns from hackers. A recent survey from The Register showed that 65% of organizations are now using GenAI to automate routine security tasks like telemetry log monitoring and alerting to try to combat the rise in GenAI security attacks.

HomeKit Weekly: Going on a trip? These are the HomeKit accessories I rely on to keep tabs on my house while I’m away.

Eve Aqua

Summer is in full swing, and with that comes summer travel. Whether for vacation, baseball tournament, work conference, or all of the above, HomeKit can help you keep tabs on your home. When traveling, there are a few key aspects of my HomeKit setup I fully rely on. One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need a HomeKit hub to access your devices remotely.

Dashlane adds support for FIDO2 security keys, making vault access truly phishing resistant

Phishing isn’t going away, especially in the enterprise. GenAI has made it easier to spin up realistic scams with voice matching, etc. MFA codes aren’t perfect if you end up handing them over. Coinbase reported a massive loss of customer data, and that has created a whole host of problems. That’s why what Dashlane just announced is very timely, because it takes phishing off the table completely. Dashlane’s latest update brings us a big step closer to a world where phishing just doesn’t work. Dashlane is now letting customers unlock their vaults with FIDO2 security keys like a YubiKey or Google Titan Key instead of a “master password”.

MagSafe Monday: Rechecking a solid pair of MagSafe accessories that always make my travel bag

MagSafe Monday

MagSafe continues to be one of my favorite aspect of the iPhone. Like HomeKit gear, it’s easy to get carried away testing new accessories. But some products just do the job. Today, I’m revisiting two items I’ve kept in travel setup: the CLCKR Phone Holder & Grip and the Anker 622 Magnetic Battery, 5,000mAh Foldable Magnetic Wireless Portable Charger with Stand and USB-C. Neither is flashy, but both are incredibly useful day to day.

The 2025 Parallels Cloud Survey recently went live, and buried in the data is a trend Apple should be paying attention to. According to the survey, 58% of enterprises are actively looking Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) options for their employees. Half of them plan to roll something out within the next six months. What’s driving this adoption? Companies want a secure, scalable way to give employees access to apps and data from anywhere. This is exactly the kind of enterprise shift that Apple could quietly build around.

HomeKit Weekly: SwitchBot’s air purifier now plays nice with HomeKit and Matter

Switchbot air purifier

If there’s one thing I’ve learned living in a house with pets and the pollen in the southern US, it’s that indoor air quality matters more than we think. Air purifiers help lessen the problem, but when you can automate them, even better. SwitchBot recently updated the SwitchBot air purifier, and it now supports Matter and works natively with HomeKit without needing an extra hub.

MagSafe Monday: BENKS ArmorPro might be the best MagSafe iPhone case yet

BENKS ArmorPro case

I’m always on the hunt for new MagSafe gear that solves a problem for me. Cases are especially something I am never satisfied with. Some cases are slim but have weak magnets. Others are rugged, but feel like bricks. The BENKS ArmorPro somehow pulls off both. It’s lightweight, works perfectly with MagSafe, and adds real protection without killing the feel of the iPhone. I also tried BENKS MagSafe ring holder that does more than just add grip. It can function as a kickstand, rotates easily, and pops off cleanly when it’s time to charge.

There’s a lot of hype around AI right now. Every product is “AI-powered” and every app promises to help you do more by doing the work for you. However, I think that real productivity improvements don’t come with bolted-on functionality. They come from building smarter tools that live where people already work and letting them focus on what humans do best. That’s why I think Spike’s new AI Feed is a solid example of workplace AI done right.

HomeKit Weekly: SwitchBot launches new smart lock with Matter support and revamped Hub 3

Switchbot

One of the best things that has happened to HomeKit in the past few years is the Matter standard. It is far from perfect, but it has opened the door (pun intended) for a new crop of accessories that would have never supported Apple’s smart home platform before. SwitchBot is a great example. The company started out with clever smart home products like the button pusher, but has leaned hard into Matter recently, and it is paying off. It’s new Lock Ultra and Hub 3 combo brings serious upgrades and, more importantly, native HomeKit compatibility thanks to Matter support.

Augmented reality has been floating around for years, mostly living in tech demo videos and marketing slides from people telling you it will blow up to be something huge. That’s starting to change, though Businesses are slowly starting to finding real value in AR, and in typical Apple fashion, the foundation in the hardware and software has been there all along; it just took time for use cases to crop up.

HomeKit Weekly: Don’t underestimate the benefits of a HomeKit door sensor

A good door and window sensor doesn’t just tell you when something opens or closes. It can trigger lights, tweak thermostat settings, or alert you when you’re not home. The new Aqara P2 sensor checks all the boxes with fast, reliable alerts, local automation support, and wide compatibility thanks to native Matter over Thread. If you’ve been holding off on adding a sensor to your setup, this one makes a strong case.
