Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook just revealed, during Apple’s fiscal Q4 earnings call, the company sold 1.3 million Apple TVs this quarter. Apple further sold 5 million units total in 2012—double the previous fiscal year.
Cook on the growing success of Apple TV:
“For Q4, we sold 1.3 million. That’s up over a 100 percent year-on-year. That means that we sold more than 5 million Apple TVs during the fiscal year, which is almost double the previous year. We sold 2.8 the previous year. And, so, the business continues to do very well. But, if you look at the size of revenue of this business versus our other businesses, it’s quite small. So, it still has hobby label. However, it’s beloved hobby. And, we continue to focus on it and continue to believe there is something more there.”
