Some, but not that many, surprises here.  One thing is certain: Web browsing has improved dramatically.

  1. That is so cool seeing the generation of iPhones lined up. In 20 years, the original iPhone is going to become a rarity and pricey. It will be called the Jesus phone.

All those under-the-hood changes of the iPhone are barely perceivable and Apple will continue to be considered a doomed company. The iPhone has practically become a legacy device but not in the way it would be if it was used by the enterprise. Wall Street and the smartphone industry hates legacy consumer products. They want as many changes as possible every year to prove the company is innovating.


    • Remember when the Galaxy S4 was announced? It had tons of people complaining for it basically being the same package with a few extra “gimicky” features. And let’s keep in mind when a device’s screen size is expanded so is the phone itself and therefore there is a lot more room for internal improvement on the device. The iPhone stays almost the same size/shape as the first generation for two reasons – first it fills up the niche for people who’d like a relatively small device with lots of power and second – it’s good marketing. Even if you don’t see the Apple logo on the iPhone you’d recognise it when seeing it’s shape and size. Also let’s not forget that most of the features implanted throughout the years have become a standard for the industry, i.e. voice recognition, map interface, multitouch and more.
      My point is that the iPhone is a recognisable smartphone and most of the criticism poured onto it is based on the fact of its popularity. There is something similar going on with the Galaxy series. They have taken criticism for not innovating but “just” changing the size and putting a processors clocked at higher speeds.
      Let’s face it – Apple has more money than the US federal reserve, so perhaps the “Apple is doomed” articles are posted simply to attract viewership.


  5. I suspect a new feature in iOS 7 may have skewed the web tests. By default, it automatically loads the top hit in the search/URL bar, so by the time everyone pressed “Go”, the website had already been preloaded (hence appearing instantly on the 5S). Was this option turned off for the tests?:

    Settings > Safari > Smart Search Field > Preload Top Hit
