Tim Cook took some time to visit a VA hospital in Palo Alto today, accompanied by Rep. Anna Eshoo of the CA-18 congressional district, according to a photo the executive tweeted. The Palo Alto VA hospital is one of many medical facilities around the country using Apple’s iPads to help treat members of the U.S. armed forces.

In the past we’ve noted that iOS is on the verge of becoming one of the main tools in the medical field as Apple reaches out to healthcare providers about its technology. Insurance companies are also beginning to see the benefit of the devices, and will likely be eager to take take advantage of upcoming innovations like Apple’s health- and fashion-focused iWatch.
Speaking of a focus on fashion…

“Mr. Cook…we got a call asking if you’ll come down to the VA hospital and visit the patients.” Tim: “Will the let me promote an Apple product?” “Yes Sir.” Tim: “Well them I’m in!!!!!!!”
Yeah, because all the other heads of multi-billion dollar companies are just lining up to do it, and all out of the kindness of their hearts.
As I tweeted to @tim_cook, I’d liked to have read more from him. He made more money standing for that picture than what it would have taken to hand out a few iPads to worthy veterans. And if he didn’t take an Apple employment team along, he’s just a jerk. Veterans, especially those finding themselves in need of VA care, need opportunities. It is fine Apple is making the devices (and profiting from) helping the VA, but that’s only good for the veterans as far that money getting spent actually maybe helps clean up the VA mess and maybe can improve their immediate care. Past that, it is just more spent tax money that DIDN’T directly reward our veterans for their service and sacrifice. Otherwise Tim Cook having been there and posing for a group shot merely turns them into a decoration for a political PR campaign.
Good point. This looks like shameless pandering.
I wonder what Apple’s hiring record is as it pertains to veterans.
Hey, give the guy a break….I’m a Vietnam vet with hearing loss (Vietnam) and my new hearing aids work specifically with my iPhone 5S. Apple goes the extra mile with the VA to integrate their devices in vet care
That tie!
I hadn’t even noticed that but dang it I’ll never be able to un-see it now.
Well Mike, at least it’s tied – not loosened like he’s in a bar :)
Hey now, Herb, I had just spent a day going through my college graduation. I had a right to loosen that tie! ;)
If Apple were a genuine humanitarian company they’d be donating these devices. Why can’t I see pictures of Cookie handing them over?
Are those Kristen Wiig and Keenan Thompson?
