Microsoft hits MacBook Air with Yoga 3 dance ad (Video)

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R98sgmllCEg]

It’s an epic dance-off between the new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and the MacBook Air. But does the MacBook Air stand a chance against the sleekness and multi-mode flexibility of the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro? Nope. And once you add the touchscreen, it’s game over. The Yoga 3 Pro proves there’s more than one way to do what you want. Learn more at http://www.microsoft.com/yoga.

To me, it is interesting to see Microsoft taking the underdog approach. Desktop PCs [read: Microsoft Windows computers] still have huge market share but have been declining while MacBooks continue to grow every quarter. The ultraportable market is where the MacBook Air is the incumbent.

The MacBook Air hasn’t been updated dramatically in quite some time so Microsoft sees perhaps a weakness?

In Apple’s defense, this is a $1300 starting price computer which goes up against the starting $899 price of a MacBook Air, the Yoga’s bezels are huge, battery life is shorter and there is always the OS X vs. Windows arguement.  But hey, it looks like a nice computer.

well the lenovo still have one big issue. Its not running an apple OS but Windows.

Yoga runs Windows and MacBook runs OSX. MacBook wins. Game Over.

In fact, the MacBook can run both OSX and Windows, so why settle for one when you can get both OSes if you need them. I have no doubt the Yoga has some good points going for it but hey, consumers really aren’t too crazy about those hybrids that try to do everything but end up doing everything compromised.

It’s not a terrible AD, but Lenovo aren’t doing themselves a favour. This won’t convince a lot of people purchase this over the Air or switch, which I presume this AD is targeting.

    1. It’s 4mm thinner in ONE dimension.

Quite possibly the only valid point made in this AD. It’s an Ultrabook. Thinness is considered a feature.
However, the MacBook Air is going to feel thinner than the listed depth would suggest due to its tapered design. Following on to my second point, thinness would matter if the Air was pretending to be a tablet, but it’s not.

    2. It can be a pseudo tablet.

NO. If you’ve used any of these devices then you know how ridiculous this push for these pseudo like tablet ultrabooks are. They’re far from being a good tablet alternative, no matter how far the software has come.

    3. It can be a “tent”

NO. Do I really need to argue how silly this point is?

Look at where these ads are aired (along with the arguments made): potential buyers who see this, are persuaded and do no further research are not likely to appreciate the more substantial differences between the two products anyway.

Right. Those worthless “features” will make me dump my awesome Apple laptop. While Lenovo makes some really good computers (for the most part), the biggest flaw in this product is that it’s running Windows with it’s clunky interface that’s a pain in the arse to use. I noticed that they’re obviously using simulated screens. The MacBook Air has a Yosemite dock running as if it has a low powered GPU, and it’s using the Mavericks wallpaper. Can’t they at least make this comparison accurate? It’s says a lot about Microsoft’s integrity when they can’t even give us a comparison that is accurate.

Well if I would have to choose between pc and Mac, I would rather get a surface pro 3 unless I get the new MacBook Air next year…

Look! Yosemite with a mavericks wallpaper!!!!

The Apple version, when it comes, will outsell Microsoft very quickly.

Instead of focusing on comparing their product to MBA they should be showing the customers how and why these hardware features are going to improve their overall user experience through new and cool software features. It’s all about the user experience, not about how long your features list is…

I guarentee you the song in this ad was mixed using a Mac.

I would prefer the Macbook Air instead of the Yoga 3.

It’s always funny when competitors give Apple free advertising! Also, nice of Microsoft / Lenovo to leave out one important fact about the Yoga 3, it’s CPU falls flat in comparison to the MBA.

Oh, and it’s running that really crappy OS called Windows, MBA runs OS X.

    Game Over.

Haven’t they learned from Samsung? Not to mock Apple on their products
